Taking Action

You are constantly busy doing this and doing that but are you really being productive? Are you doing the the kind of actions that produce results or doing things that are just time fillers to make you feel like you are doing something? Too often we fill our time with things that make us feel busy and productive but aren’t actually moving the needle. We need to be focusing on massive action-the doing, the creating. Without massive action, our goals will never be accomplished.

Fear often prevents us from taking massive action. Massive action can be scary. A lot of times it requires us to put ourselves out there. It can make us feel vulnerable and uncertain. There is safety in taking passive action. Don’t get me wrong, passive action is extremely important. For example, if I am writing a historical fiction book, then I need to do research on the time period it is set in. This is an important step in my book writing process but if I never move past it and actually write then I’m not going to reach my goal. If I just talk about creating a website and spend all my time doing research but not actually creating it, I won’t meet my goal of having a website. Fear tells us to play it safe. Others can’t criticize my book or website if I have published it yet.

A few shifts in thinking that have really stuck with me lately are the following: done is better than perfect and B+ work is still good. I know a lot of people are going to disagree with that and it is ok. I also know that it will resonate with others. For the longest time, I held back with doing things like this blog because I was worried about it not being perfect. I worried too much about criticism. No matter how great something is, there will always be critics. We can’t wait for the perfect timing or for something to be perfect. Share your gifts with the world. You never know how you will impact others.

Don’t let fear hold you back from taking massive action. Start focusing on the tasks that scare you but will move the needle towards reaching your goals. Whether it is recording that podcast, writing that book, building a website, or sending your resume to the place you really want to work, in the words of Nike, “Just Do It.”

What massive action will you take this week? I’d love to hear from you.

P.S. Never forget, YOU have some kind of wonderful to offer the world.
